VISION THERAPY

SUCCESS FOR VISION RELATED DIFFICULTIES

One of the many services offered at Family Eye Care of N.E.PA is Vision Therapy. Vision Therapy is a structured program designed to help people with vision problems which involve the eye muscles. Such patients suffer with any or all of the following problems: double vision, difficulty focusing at various distances, watery eyes, headaches, and many other symptoms. Most Vision Therapy patients are children, many of whom experience difficulty in learning-related tasks.

People who have suffered serious head trauma are also likely to require Vision Therapy.

In Vision Therapy, patients' eye coordination is strengthened through the use of workbook activities, visual computer  tasks, and various hand held equipment. These therapy procedures give the patient more control over his or her focusing skills and train the eyes to work together equally Therapy usually consists of one or two half hour in-office sessions per week. Patients are also asked to practice therapy at home for one half hour per day.

The program has been extremely successful in helping patients perform daily activities with much less difficulty.

Children who go through the program often have an improved ability to read without skipping letters and/or lines, are better able to copy words from the chalkboard, and even exhibit improvements in hand-eye coordination skills. Adults benefit in similar ways as well as in driving and work-related tasks.  See Pediatrics
